Musanze: 88 Participants Strengthen Skills in Financial Literacy and Business Management

A total of 88 participants from 15 groups drawn from the districts of Gicumbi, Rulindo, Gakenke, Burera and Musanze are attending a two-day training in Muhoza Sector, Musanze District, aimed at strengthening their knowledge in asset management, financial literacy, and business management.
The training is organized by UGAMA in partnership with Heifer International through the PRISM project. It targets Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Unions that already received basic training and are now being prepared to transition into legally recognized cooperatives.
The overall objective is to provide practical technical support that will help the groups improve daily operations, maintain accurate records, strengthen financial decision-making, and achieve sustainable business growth. Participants are being trained in recordkeeping practices such as managing cashbooks, sales books, asset registers, inventory tools, and financial statements.

The program also focuses on budgeting, saving practices, debt and credit management, investment planning, leadership, accountability, cooperative governance, and marketing skills aligned with Rwanda’s cooperative regulations.
Community Facilitators are being equipped to continue knowledge transfer within their groups through the Knowledge Transferring Circuit system. Participants said also that the training will help them improve resource management and strengthen their readiness to become sustainable cooperatives capable of improving members’ livelihoods and supporting local development.
