The International Day of Cooperatives was celebrated nationwide in Rwanda under the theme “Amakoperative, umuyoboro udaheza uganisha ku bisubizo birambye byubaka isi nziza.” (Cooperatives: A pathway of inclusion leading to sustainable solutions for a better world).

The national celebrations took place in Nyamasheke District, bringing together more than 50 cooperatives from across the country.

The event was organized by the Rwanda Cooperatives Agency (RCA) in collaboration with its key partners, including UGAMA and other cooperative support organizations. The celebrations aimed to recognize the vital role that cooperatives play in promoting inclusive development and sustainable livelihoods.

As one of the main partners, UGAMA participated actively in the event and took the opportunity to recognize outstanding cooperatives that demonstrated excellence and innovation in their respective sectors. During the ceremony, UGAMA awarded:

These awards highlighted the remarkable contributions of cooperatives in fostering community development, creating jobs, and promoting shared prosperity.

UGAMA was represented by a delegation lead by the President, Mrs Dative MUKASHEMA, who emphasized the organization’s continued commitment to supporting cooperative growth and sustainability across Rwanda. They commended RCA for its leadership and partnership in empowering cooperatives as key drivers of social and economic transformation.

The celebration concluded with messages of solidarity, cultural performances, and exhibitions showcasing cooperative products and innovations that are shaping Rwanda’s cooperative movement.
