IBIRAMBYE SHOP: New Handicraft Market Set to Open in Kamonyi.

UGAMA has announced that the project to construct a handicraft market for the District’s artisans known as IBIRAMBYE Shop is now 90% complete.

On the 13th of March, UGAMA, in partnership with ARDE/KUBAHO and MEDICUS MUNDI, was in the final phase of preparing to launch the project located in Gacurabwenge Sector, Gihinga Cell, in Kamonyi District and this project is  for the cooperatives of the  artisans,which will enable them to increase their production as well as give the artisans a platform to sell their products.

The project team completed the final phase of install some of the equipments that will be used in the shop, includes laptops, printers, chairs, cabinets, tables, and others components.

Some of the equipment, including laptops, printers, and display cabinets for products, has been delivered to the IBS Shop market, which will help artisans in Kamonyi sell their creations.

This new shop is dubbed “IBS” (IBISHYA Shop), a name that is inspired by the initiative “Guhanga Ibishya Birambye,” which translates to “creating sustainable innovations.” The project is designed to support the development of women in the rural areas who are in cooperatives in the Kamonyi District. The project also seeks to enhance the productivity of these women as well as cooperation among them. The project is supported by the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council.

The preparations for the official opening of the market are now 90% complete. The next step is to put the handicraft products from the cooperatives in the shop.

The market is expected to give the cooperatives in the Kamonyi District a platform to have a permanent place to work. This will give them  more opportunities to enhance the growth of their businesses.

The official opening of the market is set for this coming Monday  March 15 and  significantly is the  step towards supporting cooperatives as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.
